Al-Zarar program was designed to upgrade and reconfigure Pakistan's T-59 tanks with latest equipment, weaponry, fire control and Armor etc.

There are reportedly fifty four changes made in the original configuration. The project to upgrade these tanks to Al-Zarar configuration is carried out at Heavy Industries Taxila.

Some of its features are below,

      125 mm Smooth Bore Gun, capable of firing APFSDS, HEAT-FS and HE-FS    

    730 HP Engine with Improved Transmission

    Semi - Automatic Loading System

    Image Stabilized Fire Control and Improved Gun Control System

    Improved Suspension

    Enhanced Armour protection with Explosive Reactive Armour and Anti-mine Bottom Plate
